Non-abrasive on the enamel, always. The ovens are cleaned warm rather than cold, which helps the carbon release, and the chrome lids are polished by hand rather than scoured.

What to expect

An AGA in daily use for years will look considerably better but not factory new. Crazing in the enamel and heat staining around the hotplates are permanent.

Purpose-built student blocks require booked access through a site office and often restrict the hours that vans can be on site, unlike the private house shares.

Questions we get asked

Do I have to turn the AGA off first?

Turn it down the day before rather than off, if you can. We clean them warm, because warm enamel releases the carbon and a stone cold AGA is a much longer job. A full shutdown costs you a day either side to reheat, which most owners would rather avoid. Ring and we will work out the timing with you.

Will you use wire wool on the enamel?

Never. Nothing abrasive goes near vitreous enamel, because the scratches do not polish out and the surface then stains faster than it did before. The chrome lids are worked by hand. Hotplates get the proper scraper and nothing harsher. A two oven AGA is £143 and takes most of a morning.

Mine has fine cracks all over the enamel. Will they clean out?

The grime sitting in the crazing lifts and the surface looks a great deal better. The crazing itself is permanent, and so is the heat staining round the hotplates. An AGA in daily use for fifteen years does not go back to showroom condition. Better said on the phone than after you have paid for it.

Do you do three and four oven models?

Yes, priced on the call. Two oven is £143 and the bigger models cost more because there is simply more of them: another cavity, another door, a second hotplate. Tell us the model and whether it runs on oil, gas or electric, and you will have a firm price before anyone comes out.
