Range cookers in Egham

A range cooker cleaned in a Egham kitchen

Range cookers are a different job from a built-in: wider cavities, heavier doors, and a hob that is part of the same unit.

Price

A 90cm range cooker is £114. Wider models and those with a third cavity are quoted on the call.

What is included

Both cavities, the doors and glass, racks and shelf runners, and the hob surface with burner caps and crowns lifted and soaked. Cast iron pan supports go in the tank with the rest.

Access

Ranges are heavy and we do not pull them out. We clean the front, the top, the cavities and as far down each side as the gap allows.

Water here is hard at around 275 mg/l, so limescale sits on the hob surround, the kettle and the glass, and it has to be tackled separately from the grease when a range or oven door is stripped.

For cast iron heat-storage cookers see AGA cleaning.

Questions we get asked

Mine is a 100cm range. Is it still £114?

£114 is the 90cm price. Wider models, and anything with a third cavity, get quoted on the call, because the work scales with the cavities rather than with the badge on the front. Tell us the make and the width and you get a firm number before we book, not a range of numbers.

Do you pull the cooker out to clean behind it?

No. Ranges are heavy, they usually sit on soft flooring, and dragging one out puts the gas connection at risk as well as your floor. We do the front, the top, both cavities and as far down each side as the gap allows. If you want behind it done, have it pulled out first and we will do it while it stands clear.

Does the hob come with the range price?

On a range, yes. The hob is part of the same unit, so burner caps, crowns and the cast iron pan supports go in the tank with the racks and the top surface is done at the same time. A separate built-in hob beside a built-in oven is a separate appliance, and that is £23.

How long will we be without the cooker?

Three to four hours for a 90cm with two cavities and a gas top. The cast iron pan supports need a long soak, which sets the pace, so those go in first. If the range is the only thing you cook on, book a morning and it is back in use by mid afternoon.
