Hobs in Egham

Hobs are usually booked alongside an oven, and they are half of what makes a kitchen smell of old cooking.

Gas hobs
Burner caps, crowns and pan supports come off and soak. Ignition points are cleaned by hand and left dry, because a damp igniter will not spark and people assume it is broken.
Induction and ceramic
Scraped and polished rather than soaked. Rings burnt on from a boil-over usually lift; heat marks under the glass do not, because they are beneath the surface.
Purpose-built student blocks require booked access through a site office and often restrict the hours that vans can be on site, unlike the private house shares.
Most people add the extractor at the same time.
Questions we get asked
Can I book just the hob on its own?
You can, but the minimum charge on one off work is £67, so a £23 hob by itself is poor value for you. Almost everyone adds it to an oven clean, where it is done in the same visit with no second call-out and no extra travel. Say so when you book and we allow twenty minutes for it.
Will the gas rings still light properly afterwards?
Yes, as long as they go back dry, which is why we hand dry the ignition points before we leave. A damp igniter clicks without catching and people assume something has broken. If a burner has been sluggish for months, clearing the ports often sorts it. If it does not, that is a gas fitter’s job and we will say so.
There are burnt rings on my ceramic top. Will they come off?
Boil-over residue usually does, taken back with a proper blade and then polished. Marks under the glass rather than on it will not, because that is heat damage in the surface itself. Run a fingernail across it. If you can feel the ridge we can shift it. If it is smooth, it is in the glass.
Do the pan supports go in the tank?
Yes, along with the burner caps and crowns, while the surface is cleaned by hand. The soak is what gets the baked-on rings off the undersides, and no amount of scrubbing at your sink does that. Everything goes back on the right burner. £23 for a hob, £28 for a big gas top with a lot of ironwork.
