Oven cleaning in Egham Hythe

Egham Hythe is the low-lying corner of Egham on the south bank of the Thames, joined to Staines by Staines Bridge. Its postcode is TW18, although it sits in Runnymede. In February 2014 the river came straight into these streets, and many ground floors were stripped and refitted afterwards.

Newer kitchens, older houses

That refit is why so many kitchens here are newer than the houses around them. For an oven clean it changes a few things.

1. Door glass on newer ovens usually lifts out, so every pane can be cleaned.
2. Some newer ovens have catalytic liners on the sides and back. Those rough panels are meant to burn grease off by themselves, and scrubbing ruins them, so we clean round them and leave the liners alone.
3. On a pyrolytic oven the racks usually have to come out before the self-clean cycle runs, so they are often the dirtiest part. They soak like any other racks.
4. Where an oven was raised off the floor as flood protection, it sits at a comfortable height to work on.

We look at the model first and tell you which of these applies before we start. If you still have the manual from the refit, keep it handy; it says whether the door glass comes out and what the side panels are.

This reach of the Thames still has no flood defences, which is why ground-floor appliances here are so often raised or fairly new. If your oven sits in a raised housing, the front of the housing gets a wipe as well.

On Thorpe Road and near the bridge

Thorpe Road runs through the middle of the area, with side streets off it towards the bridge. If we cannot stop outside, the kit has a longer walk from wherever we park. Allow two hours for a single; a double runs nearer three.
