Oven cleaning in Thorpe

Thorpe is the village south of Egham, in TW20, ringed by flooded gravel pits with Thorpe Park alongside. The old centre along Village Road is a conservation area, with the medieval St Mary’s Church off Coldharbour Lane and several listed buildings.

Two parts of the village

Thorpe has the old centre on Village Road and a second cluster of homes to the south, between Coldharbour Lane and Green Lane. In the older houses, kitchens have often been fitted around what the building allows. If yours is a range or an AGA in one of those, tell us the width or the number of ovens when you ring, because both change the price and the timing. Both parts of the village pay the same prices.

A Thorpe visit, in order

1. On the phone, say whether it is a built-in, a range or an AGA. Each has its own price.
2. For an AGA, turn it to low the evening before. For anything else, switch it off an hour before we arrive.
3. On the day, racks and pan supports are put to soak, and the cavities, glass and seals are done by hand. A built-in single takes about two hours; an AGA most of a morning.
4. Everything goes back in the order it came out, and you check it with us.

Thorpe Lea, up towards Egham Hythe, was one of the areas flooded in 2014, and some ground-floor appliances there were raised or replaced afterwards. A newer oven usually has glass that lifts out, which makes the door quicker to do.

Old floors and narrow doors

Some of the older houses have narrow doorways and uneven floors. Kit comes in by the nearest outside door, carried, never dragged. Range doors that lift off lie flat on dust sheets out of the way of anyone walking through, and the sheets run from the back door to the cooker. Travel out from Egham is in the price.
